| Dear Walter, |
|
Good Morning,
The next membership meeting will be held on Thursday February 25th at The Lantana in Randolph. Our two speakers will be John Loranger and Bill Hansen from Bathfitters for the first session followed up by Frankie Walker from J.Day Restoration Experts discussing fire restoration work.
I would also like to thank J.Day Restorations for sponsoring the continental breakfast at last weeks Standards of Practice Seminar held by our own Bob Mulloy. This seminar was a big success with over 115 inspectors attending.
Just a reminder on Wednesday March 24th we will be including a one hour ethics class taught by our own Bill Sutton for those of you that still need to meet your licensing requirements for the upcoming renewal period. This is your last chance to get the credit you needed to renew your licenses. We are expecting a big turnout and Bob Mulloy has already booked the larger room for this March meeting.
We were also invited as a Chapter to receive a free table at the Boston Home Center's Housing Expo. This was a last minute invite from the housing authority who would love to promote ASHI New England Home Inspectors to their first time home buyers/city sponsored programs. The date is Saturday, February 27th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. We will be looking for New England members who would like to sit at this booth to talk home inspection and the importance of an ASHI home inspection. Anyone interested in taking part in this event should email me at homequest1@comcast.net and I can let you in on more details.
See you next week!

| NH Legislation |
There are two bills that have been filed in the New Hampshire Legislature for the 2010 Legislative Session that pertain to home inspection.
HB1325 would make changes to the grandfathering provisions for the licensure of persons practicing as home inspectors for at least five years. This bill had a public hearing on February 4, 2010. The Executive Departments and Administration Committee where this bill was assigned has recommended that the bill be defeated. It will now be brought up in the House for their vote.
HB1471 has received a new title. It would require the governor's office of energy and planning and the board of home inspectors to develop a document on the benefits of energy efficient home improvements that home inspectors will provide to their clients with the inspector's home inspection report. A public hearing has been held on this bill and several committee work sessions have been held to discuss this bill. The Science, Technology and Energy Committee where this bill has been assigned has recommended that this bill ought to pass. |

| ASHI February Membership Meeting |

The next monthly membership meeting and educational program will take place on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at The Lantana in Randolph, MA. The meeting will start with registration at 4:30 followed by dinner and the membership meeting and educational program. The Board of Directors will hold their meeting from 3:30 to 4:30 that afternoon and all members are invited to attend.
Join us for the Chapter's February meeting where the evening's program will be comprised of two different sessions. For our first session, we welcome John Loranger, a commercial and residential estimator, and Bill Hansen, an installer both with Bath Fitter. During this session they will offer a brief history of Bath Fitter, the history of their local branch now celebrating its 20th Anniversary, and dispel some of the common myths about bath liners. They will offer a pictorial explanation of the entire installation process starting from measuring the tub to completion of the project. For inspectors, they will discuss the durability of their products and what to expect in terms of typical wear and tear and what to expect from a Bath Fitter installation after 5, 10, 20 years as well as service issues and product warranty. Next, we will offer a Fire Restoration seminar led by Frankie Walker of J. Brian Day Restoration Experts. The seminar will focus on fire restoration and structure reconstruction, as well as content restoration, including clothing and other items affected by smoke and soot damage. During a fire, smoke is driven by heat created by flames. No matter where the fire originates, smoke may penetrate throughout a building structure. Smoke also combines with humidity and can form residues that may cause secondary damage. Long after the fire is out, the damage can continue, as remaining free-floating smoke settles on horizontal surfaces and contents. Types of smoke damage the seminar will address include: wet smoke residues, dry smoke residues, fuel oil soot, other types of residue.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, February 25th.
Bob Mulloy, Education Chairman

| Oil Heating System Upgrade |
Massachusetts has a new law to address oil leaks from home heating systems. This law has two major provisions that require:
- the installation of either an oil safety valve or an oil supply line with protective sleeve on systems that do not currently have these devices; and
- insurance companies that write homeowner policies to offer coverage for leaks from heating systems that use oil.
Most homeowners policies do not currentlky include such coverage, leaving many to pay for costly cleanups out of their own pocket. Although it is mandatory that insurance companies offer this coverage, the insurance is an optional purchase for homeowners.
The effective date for both provisions is July 1, 2010.
